Mamata’s Party Challenges Locket, Agnimitra to Walk in Uttar Pradesh After 8 PM

Political tensions are high in West Bengal following the alleged Kasba gang-rape incident in Kolkata. As the BJP continues to target the ruling Trinamool Congress over women’s safety, Trinamool youth leader Debangshu Bhattacharya has issued a counter-challenge to the BJP. He challenged BJP women leaders to walk in Uttar Pradesh after 8 PM without security, asserting that women in Bengal are safe even after 2 AM. His comments have sparked a new controversy, with Bhattacharya claiming that women’s safety in Bengal is superior to that in other BJP-ruled states.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar was held in jail overnight in connection with protests against the Kasba incident and released on Sunday morning. High tensions erupted during the BJP’s protest outside Lalbazar against his arrest, leading to the detention of three BJP councilors. Upon his release from jail, Sukanta Majumdar sharply criticized the state government, questioning women’s safety and the law and order situation. Overall, Debangshu’s counter-challenge and Sukanta’s continuous attacks surrounding the Kasba incident have brought the issue of women’s safety to the forefront of state politics.
