DA Protest Heats Up State Politics on Trinamool’s Martyrs’ Day

Kolkata, India – As the Trinamool Congress prepares to observe its traditional Martyrs’ Day on July 21, the Sangrami Joutha Mancha (United Struggling Forum) has announced a “Nabanna Abhijan” (march to the secretariat) on the same day, demanding pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. The simultaneous scheduling of these two events, centered on the long-standing demand of state government workers, is significantly escalating political tensions across the state.

The Sangrami Joutha Mancha alleges that the state government has not fully sanctioned DA despite directives from the Supreme Court. Beyond the DA issue, the forum’s protest also targets other concerns, including the Kasba gang-rape case, fair wages for laborers, and reforms in the education sector. A large procession is planned to commence at 10:00 AM on July 21 from Rani Rashmoni Avenue, heading towards Nabanna. This planned march is expected to generate renewed excitement in state politics, with potential far-reaching implications.
