Kasba Rape Case Rocks State, Another Arrested as Locket Targets CM

Kolkata: The alleged rape of a South Calcutta Law College student in Kasba has sent shockwaves through West Bengal’s political landscape. Kolkata Police have arrested another individual in connection with the case, bringing the total number of arrests to four. Meanwhile, BJP leader Locket Chatterjee has sharply criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the state’s law and order situation and women’s safety, asserting that women are not safe under the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal.

The latest accused to be arrested on Saturday is Pinaki Banerjee (55), a guard at Kasba Law College. Previously, three other individuals—Manojit Mishra (31), Jaieb Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20)—were apprehended. The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
