Groom’s front row seat as bride elopes with lover on wedding night

A unique love story from Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district has captivated everyone, where love not only broke social ties but also earned the respect of the panchayat’s decision.
This is the story of a young woman and her lover, who caused a commotion at her in-laws’ house on the very night of her wedding.
A young woman from the Sonbhadra’s Meorpur police station area had a long-standing love affair with a young man from her own village. But, as often happens, the family arranged the woman’s marriage to a young man from the Babni area on May 27. The wedding rituals were completed, and after the farewell, the young woman arrived at her in-laws’ house. But the story didn’t end there. Her lover, deeply engrossed in love, was unwilling to accept this union.
Lover’s arrival at in-laws’ house on wedding night
On the night of May 28, while preparations for the wedding night were underway at the in-laws’ house, the young woman’s lover suddenly appeared there. This scene was no less dramatic than a movie. The lover fearlessly dared to take his bride, dressed in her wedding attire, away right in front of the groom. He took her directly to his sister’s house. The in-laws were stunned and spent the entire night searching for the young woman. In the morning, the young woman’s father informed the in-laws that she was at her sister’s house.
Panchayat’s unique decision
Following this incident, a panchayat was called in the village. The in-laws demanded compensation for the wedding expenses, but the lover and his family initially refused to accept this condition. The panchayat convened again on Saturday, where the groom’s side refused to accept the young woman. Their statement was that if the young woman’s heart remained with her lover, it was better to let her go with him. The panchayat supported this decision and instructed the lover to go to court and have a legal marriage. At the same time, the lover was asked to pay a portion of the wedding expenses. The lover accepted this condition and, after paying some money to the groom’s family, took his beloved with him.
