Supreme Court Directs NEET PG Exam to be Held in Single Shift

Finally, a sigh of relief! The National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET PG 2025) will now be conducted in a single shift instead of two. The Supreme Court of the country issued this landmark directive on Friday. The crucial medical entrance examination, scheduled for June 15, will now be conducted with complete transparency and ensure equal opportunities.
A bench led by Justice Vikram Nath, which included Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria, directed the concerned authorities to make all necessary arrangements for conducting the examination in a single shift and maintaining complete transparency. The court clearly stated that conducting the examination in two shifts “leads to arbitrariness.”
During the NEET PG exam hearing, the court further stated, “Even if only one or two candidates have filed applications, if their contention is correct, then the court must intervene. Last year, under special circumstances, the examination was conducted in two shifts, but this cannot become a general rule now.”
The court observed that conducting the examination in two shifts creates discrimination among candidates and cannot provide equal opportunities to all candidates. Conducting the examination in two shifts should only be done in special cases, not every year.
The court emphasized that India lacks no technology or resources. Sufficient centers can be created across the country to conduct the examination in a single shift. The court also stated that more than two weeks are remaining for the examination. Therefore, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBE) has ample time to identify new centers and conduct the examination in a single shift.
The Supreme Court directed the NBE to maintain transparency and ensure secure centers. Additionally, the court stated that all necessary arrangements must be made as soon as possible. As a result of this ruling, NEET PG candidates are expected to get a fair and unbiased examination environment.
