Groundbreaking success in cancer treatment! Indian-origin surgeon performs world’s first bladder transplant!

For the first time ever, doctors in the United States have successfully performed a bladder transplant. The bladder was transplanted into 41-year-old Oscar Larrainzar in Los Angeles. Doctors claim this is an unprecedented success not only in the United States but also in the history of medical science.

Doctors also claim that this surgery will bring new hope to thousands of patients suffering from severe organ failure.

According to a report by the US news agency The New York Times, Indian-origin urologist Inderbir Gill is behind this groundbreaking surgery. After the operation, the doctor stated that the patient was suffering from a rare type of cancer called tracheal adenocarcinoma. After surgery to remove a tumor four years ago, his bladder function was virtually completely lost. While a normal bladder can hold more than 300 cubic centimeters of fluid, he could only hold about 30 cubic centimeters of urine. This meant he had no ability to retain urine. Following this surgery, he is now able to use the restroom normally.

Gill added, “There is no doubt that this transplant has opened up a possibility for patients that did not exist before. Organ transplantation is a life-saving surgery. In many cases, this procedure becomes essential to save a patient’s life and improve their quality of life. Now, bladder transplantation can also be added to that list.”
