The Chennai Forest Department and the Wildlife Crime Prevention Unit have arrested four individuals for allegedly attempting to illegally sell an anteater and its cub for ₹40 lakhs near Old Perungalathur. Anteaters are a type of mammal with the scientific name Myrmecophagidae.

These animals typically feed on ants and termites, breaking open their nests or mounds and using their long tongues to collect food. In some regions of Central and South America, anteaters are a significant tourist attraction. They play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
