Was an air defense system deployed at the Golden Temple? Indian Army Clarifies

Following the Pahalgam Terror Attack, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ dismantling nine terrorist strongholds in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This led to retaliation from Pakistan, which India countered. In the aftermath, several reports circulated claiming that an air defense system had been deployed inside Amritsar’s Golden Temple.
However, the Indian Army clarified this ambiguity on Tuesday.
A clear official statement was released, stating that “no air defense guns or any other air defense assets were deployed in the Shri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) complex in Amritsar to counter Pakistani drone and missile attacks.” The Golden Temple authorities also explicitly stated that the Indian Army had never contacted them regarding this matter, and they were unaware of any missile installations within the temple premises.
Significantly, an Indian Army officer, Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D’Cunha, had previously stated in an interview with a national media outlet that the Golden Temple authorities had granted permission to install air defense guns within the temple complex. It was even suggested that the temple lights were dimmed as needed to better observe Pakistani drones. However, the Indian Army later explicitly clarified that no such event occurred.
