A new feather in their cap! Mukesh and Nita Ambani secure a spot on Time Magazine’s inaugural ‘Time100 Philanthropy’ list

Time Magazine recently unveiled its first ‘Time100 Philanthropy’ list, featuring Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani, Chairperson of Reliance Foundation. This recognition is a testament to their extensive and diverse philanthropic endeavors.
According to Time Magazine, “Billionaire philanthropists Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s charitable initiatives are as varied and expansive as their business empire.” The magazine noted that their business empire has helped them accumulate an estimated $110 billion in wealth.
The philanthropic efforts of the Ambani couple have positively impacted millions of Indians. Their initiatives include vocational funding to enhance career skills for girls, supporting rural enterprises through sustainable agricultural initiatives, aiding water conservation projects, funding hospital construction, assisting individuals with visual impairments, and improving school infrastructure.
In 2024, the Ambani couple emerged as the country’s most significant philanthropists, donating 407 crore rupees (approximately $48 million).
Nita Ambani, owner of the Mumbai Indians cricket team, has been specifically acknowledged for her contributions to the advancement of athletes. She has worked tirelessly to provide world-class facilities for emerging athletes, particularly women. Regarding this initiative, Nita Ambani stated, “Women face various challenges in pursuing professional sports, which makes their success even more special.”
Aside from Mukesh and Nita Ambani, the Time100 Philanthropy list also includes many other Indian and Indian-origin personalities. Notable among them are Wipro Chairman Azim Premji and entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath. Additionally, Indian-American journalist Anand Giridharadas is also featured on this list. Internationally, the list boasts prominent figures such as David Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Dolly Parton, Jack Ma, and Prince William.
