Buddha Purnima 2025: Chant Sacred Mantras for Goddess Lakshmi’s Blessings and Prosperity

Buddha Purnima, a revered festival for Hindus and Buddhists alike, marks the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Gautam Buddha. Also known as Vaishakh Purnima, this day holds profound spiritual significance. In Hinduism, Buddha is considered the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, making it a day of dual worship for both deities. Devotees perform rituals and observe fasts, believing that proper observance brings Lord Vishnu’s blessings, fostering peace and prosperity in life. For Buddhists, fasting and reflecting on Buddha’s teachings are central to the celebration.

According to the Vedic calendar, the full moon (Purnima) of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha begins on May 11, Sunday, at 8:01 p.m. and ends on May 12, Monday, at 10:25 p.m. Based on Udaya Tithi, Buddha Purnima will be celebrated on May 12, marking Gautam Buddha’s 2,587th birth anniversary. Worshipping the Peepal tree is highly auspicious, with devotees advised to chant the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum.” Additionally, offering Arghya to the moon while reciting “Om Aim Kleem Somaya Namah” is recommended for spiritual merit.

Buddha Purnima inspires spiritual awakening and service to humanity. Its significance in Hinduism stems from Buddha’s recognition as Vishnu’s avatar, whose teachings on suffering, sin, and karma have guided humanity toward righteousness. “This day offers a chance for inner peace and spiritual growth,” says Pandit Rakesh Sharma, a Vedic scholar. The festival is seen as an opportunity to attain spiritual elevation and accrue virtuous deeds through devotion and charity.

Devotees engage in mantra recitation, worship, and acts of kindness to invite happiness and abundance. Buddha Purnima transcends religious boundaries, promoting universal values of peace and compassion. As families gather to honor this sacred day, the festival reinforces the timeless relevance of Buddha’s message in fostering harmony and goodwill.
