Darjeeling’s Zojila Dolkar Bhutia Cracks UPSC 2024, Secures 765th Rank with IPS Aspirations

Darjeeling: The hill town of Darjeeling erupted in celebration on Tuesday as Zojila Dolkar Bhutia, a 29-year-old resident of Merry Villa, secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 765 in the UPSC 2024 examination, results of which were announced by the Union Public Service Commission. Aspiring to join the Indian Police Service (IPS), Zojila’s achievement marks a proud moment for her family and the entire community, following last year’s success of Jayashree Pradhan, who clinched AIR 52 and joined the Indian Foreign Service.
An alumna of Loreto Convent, Darjeeling, Zojila graduated with honors in political science from Delhi’s Miranda House in 2017. Currently serving as the additional district sub-registrar in Kurseong after clearing the West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) exam in 2018, she balances a demanding career with her UPSC ambitions. “I’m posted with the directorate of registration and stamp revenue,” Zojila told The Telegraph. This was her third UPSC attempt, having first tried in 2020. “Studying while working was tough, but I’m thrilled to have cracked the exam,” said the daughter of Hisay Bhutia, an assistant regional transport officer, and Anjana Chhetri Bhutia, who works at Darjeeling’s Foods and Crafts Institute.
Zojila’s journey stands out in a year where 1,009 candidates were selected, with Shakti Dubey topping the UPSC 2024. Her success is Darjeeling’s third notable UPSC achievement, highlighting the town’s emerging talent pool. Her story resonates with young aspirants, proving that perseverance can overcome formidable challenges. As she sets her sights on the IPS, Zojila embodies the spirit of determination that inspires others to chase their dreams despite demanding circumstances.
The significance of Zojila’s achievement extends beyond personal triumph, reflecting Darjeeling’s growing contribution to India’s civil services. With her family and community rallying behind her, she is poised to make a mark in the IPS, carrying forward the pride of her hometown. Darjeeling now watches with bated breath as Zojila prepares to serve the nation.
