Baramulla: Two Terrorists Neutralized as Army Intensifies Action in J&K After Pahalgam Attack

Srinagar: A day after the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army neutralized two terrorists in Baramulla on Wednesday, thwarting an infiltration bid. The swift response came when 2-3 unidentified terrorists attempted to cross the Line of Control (LoC) via the Sarjivan area of Uri Nala. The Chinar Corps stated, “On April 23, 2025, terrorists tried to infiltrate through Baramulla’s Sarjivan. Alert troops engaged them, leading to an exchange of fire. The operation is ongoing.” Security forces have intensified search operations in the region.

On Tuesday, a brutal attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran, popularly known as ‘Mini Switzerland,’ claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists. The Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked ‘The Resistance Front’ claimed responsibility for the assault, the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack. A senior official told PTI, “Twenty-two victims have been identified; efforts continue to identify four others.” The deceased include two foreign tourists from the UAE and Nepal. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described it as “the largest attack on civilians in recent years,” expressing profound grief.

The Pahalgam attack prompted immediate high-level responses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his Saudi Arabia visit to chair a security meeting in Delhi, while Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the situation in Srinagar. Security agencies recovered a numberless Pulsar bike, potentially linked to the terrorists’ movements. The incident has dealt a severe blow to Kashmir’s tourism, with efforts underway to evacuate tourists safely. High alerts have been issued in Delhi, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh.

The back-to-back incidents underscore the persistent security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army’s decisive action in Baramulla reflects its commitment to safeguarding the region, but the Pahalgam tragedy has reignited concerns about civilian safety. As investigations deepen, the nation mourns the loss while bracing for heightened vigilance to restore peace in the Valley.
