Bullet train dream comes true in India: Railways will create new history with Shinkansen

Indian Railways is moving towards a new chapter of history. Japan’s world famous ‘Shinkansen’ bullet train is now ready to run on the tracks of India. After the success of Vande Bharat trains, testing of Shinkansen’s E5 and E3 series trains will start soon on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced, “This corridor will connect Mumbai, Thane, Bhopal, Baroda, Surat, Anand and Ahmedabad, reducing the travel time to only three hours.” The project is a symbol of India-Japan technical cooperation.

According to the Japanese press, Shinkansen trains will test at a speed of 350 kmph, while passenger services will operate at a speed of 320 kmph. An official of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said, “After the trial run in 2027, the train will be fully operational by 2030.” Japan’s advanced bridge construction technology is being used for the corridor. However, questions remain about the affordability of fares and passenger amenities. This train will not only reduce travel time but will also set a new standard of comfort and modernity, which will prove to be a milestone in the modernization of Indian Railways.
