Looking for relief in this summer? ‘Icche Village’ is your next destination

Siliguri: As the summer is reaching its peak, everyone is wondering where to get relief from the urban noise and scorching sun this time. If you are looking for something calm and untouched away from the crowded tourist places, then ‘Icche Village’ located in Kalimpong district of West Bengal can be perfect for you. This small hill village is now slowly making its mark on the tourism map, and its specialty is its simplicity and natural beauty.
Located at a distance of just 60 kilometers from Darjeeling, this village is far away from the crowd and noise of tourists. It is also situated on a hill slope at a distance of just 15-20 kilometers from Kalimpong city. As soon as you reach here, you are welcomed by the enchanting view of the huge peaks of the Himalayas, and along with it you get a peace which has become rare in today’s busy life.
A priceless gift of nature
The biggest feature of Ichhe village is its clear sky and unmatched view of the Himalayas. The weather here remains clear most of the year, although it remains cloudy during the rainy season. On clear days, the snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga and the surrounding Himalayan mountains appear so close to this village that it seems as if you can touch them. The dense forests of pine and oak spread all around make this place even more special.
Arun Rai, a local resident who runs a homestay, says, “People who come here forget the hustle and bustle of the city and spend time with nature. The chirping of birds in the early morning and walking in the cool breeze—these are experiences that you will rarely get anywhere else.” Indeed, this village is no less than a paradise for nature lovers and those seeking peace.
How to reach?
Reaching Ichhe village is not difficult. It is about 80-90 km from New Jalpaiguri railway station and about 85 km from Bagdogra airport. You can easily reach this village via Kalimpong by taking a shared jeep or a rented car from both these places. The journey on the hilly paths by road is an adventure in itself.
There are many homestays available to stay in the village, where you will get to experience local hospitality and delicious food. The cost of living and food per person is between Rs 1200 to Rs 2000, which is quite economical according to the budget. Homestay operator Mamta Thapa says, “We try to give a homely atmosphere to the guests. The food is also prepared locally, which has the magic of hilly taste.”
What to do?
Coming here, you can stroll on the narrow paths of the village, watch birds or simply spend time admiring the view of the Himalayas. During a morning walk, colorful birds and greenery spread far and wide will refresh your mind. If you are fond of photography, then this place is also a treasure for your camera.
Why is it special?
Unlike popular hill stations like Darjeeling and Gangtok, Ichhe Gaon is still untouched by the tourist crowds. There are neither rows of hotels nor the glitz of markets. What is there is the untouched form of nature and a glimpse of the local culture. Tourism experts believe that in the coming years this village will be high on the list of offbeat travel, but right now it has retained its peace and simplicity.
So if you want a different and relaxing experience this summer, then Ichhe Gaon is perfect for you. Pack your bags, and set out towards this unknown but beautiful destination.
