Chandigarh, April 4, 2025: Managing the kitchen budget has become a challenge for every family nowadays. From cities to villages, LPG cylinder is now an important part of cooking, but its rising prices are taking a toll on the pockets of common people. In such a situation, the BJP government of Haryana has started a relief initiative, under which now lakhs of women of the state will be able to get LPG cylinder for just Rs 500. This scheme has not only brought good news for the middle and low income groups, but is also a step towards empowering women.

Launch of ‘Har Ghar Har Grihini’ scheme

The name of this new project of the Haryana government is ‘Har Ghar Har Grihini Yojana’. Under this, a target has been set to provide gas cylinders to about 52 lakh women of the state at a subsidized rate. Till now, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder is available in the market for Rs 800 to Rs 850, and the subsidy amount is so low that it does not show any special benefit. But now through this scheme, the price of the cylinder is being brought down to Rs 500, which can prove to be a big relief for the middle class and poor families.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, while launching the scheme, said, “Our aim is to make the kitchen of every house affordable and convenient. Women are the backbone of our society, and this scheme is a small effort to honor their hard work.” This initiative will not only reduce the financial burden, but will also promote the use of clean fuel.

Who can take advantage?

This scheme is not for everyone. Some conditions have been fixed for this, so that the benefits reach the right needy. A Haryana government official said, “Only women can take advantage of this scheme. The applicant should be a permanent resident of Haryana and his family’s annual income should be less than Rs 1.8 lakh.” Apart from this, the documents required for the application include Aadhar card, ration card, copy of gas book, copy of bank passbook, photo identity card and an active mobile number. The most important condition is that the applicant should already have a valid gas connection in his house.

Expressing happiness, Rohtak housewife Sangeeta Devi said, “It was becoming difficult to get a cylinder for Rs 850. Now if it is available for Rs 500, then the monthly expenses will be managed a bit. This scheme is a boon for families like us.”

How to apply?

Registration is necessary to join this scheme, and the good thing is that it can be done online from home. The application form can be filled by visiting the official website of the Haryana government. After registration, you will get a registration number, which has to be kept safely. This number will be useful in the further process. The government has also clarified that the benefit will start only after checking the eligibility.

Purpose and impact of the scheme

The rising prices of LPG cylinders in Haryana have been a topic of discussion for a long time. Especially in rural areas, where people still depend on wood and coal, this scheme is expected to increase the access to clean fuel. Social activist Rekha Sharma says, “Getting a cylinder for Rs 500 is not just an economic relief, but is also beneficial for health and the environment. Diseases caused by smoke will be reduced, and women’s lives will become easier.” However, some experts believe that the success of the scheme will depend on how transparently its benefits reach the needy. Opposition parties have termed it an election stunt, but the government claims that this step has been taken for the welfare of the people. Way forward The Haryana government says that this scheme has been started as a pilot project. If it is successful, it can be expanded further. At present, 52 lakh women have been targeted, but in the future there is a plan to include more families in it. A government official said, “Our goal is to provide cheap and safe fuel to every household.
