Among the sub-inspectors, Khaidi Ram has been posted from SDRF to Hamirpur, Bachchan Singh to Kangra and Pradeep Kumar to Mandi.
Why was this reshuffle done?
Sources in the police department say that these transfers have been done to increase administrative efficiency and ensure better law and order at the ground level. In a hilly state like Himachal, a well-organized system is necessary for disaster management and crime control. Keeping this in mind, many officers have been sent to sensitive departments like SDRF. A senior police officer said on the condition of anonymity, “These changes were pending for a long time. New faces were needed in some areas, so that there is freshness in the work.”
New responsibilities of officers
In this reshuffle, many officers have also been given new roles. For example, Dinesh Kumar has been sent from the fifth IRB to the Police Headquarters, Baldev Ram to SDRF and Megh Singh from the third IRB to the Armed Police and Training Department. Anil Kumar has been posted from Baddi to a remote area like Lahaul-Spiti. At the same time, ASI Sunil Kumar posted in Junga, Kamal Singh from 3rd IRBn and Anil Kumar from 1st IRBn have also been included in the SDRF.
What will be the effect on the ground level?
This new deployment of police force in Himachal Pradesh is being considered important in many ways. Especially the officers sent to SDRF are expected to speed up disaster management. Natural disasters like earthquakes, landslides and floods are common in the state, and in such a situation, the presence of trained officers can make relief work effective. Rakesh Thakur, a local resident of Shimla, says, “The job of the police is not only to prevent crime, but also to help us during disasters. It is hoped that the new officers will fulfill this responsibility well.”
Political angle of transfers
Although these transfers are being told on the basis of administrative needs, some experts are also looking at it from a political perspective. After the assembly elections, there is tension between the ruling party and the opposition in the state. In such a situation, discussions are intensifying regarding changes in the police department. However, no official statement has come from the government on this.
What’s next?
This reshuffle could be a new beginning for Himachal Police. The officers included in the transfer list will soon have to take up their new responsibilities. Departmental sources say that more changes are possible in the coming days, especially in those areas where challenges related to law and order are increasing. For now, all eyes will be on how much impact this new deployment has on the ground level.
