Nearly 20 people develop eye infections after applying oil to their heads to prevent baldness

Around 20 people developed eye infections after applying oil to their heads to prevent baldness at a local Mata Kali Devi temple in Punjab. People came to the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital complaining of severe pain and burning in their eyes.

A team of doctors started treatment. The infected patients continued to arrive till Sunday evening.

20 people contracted the infection after washing their heads.
According to media reports, a man at the Mata Kali Devi temple in the city had organised a hair growth camp for people who were fed up with their bald heads. Many people came from Sangrur, as well as Barnala and Mansa districts to take medicine for the camp. The man who organised the camp asked people to apply oil on their heads and wash their heads after 20 minutes.

Complaints of burning and severe pain in the eyes:
As soon as people went home and washed their hair, their eyes started burning, painful and red. People suffering from pain came to the emergency ward of the city’s government hospital for treatment.

The number of patients gradually increased throughout the evening:
The number of patients at the hospital increased as the evening progressed. The doctor at the emergency department said that more than 20 people had come to the hospital for treatment till 7 pm on Sunday. He was told to see an eye specialist again on Monday. According to them, they had come to the camp to grow their hair, but the oil applied to their heads at the camp made their eyes red and painful, so they had to go to the hospital. They said that they came to know about the camp through social media.
