Jafar Express attack: Death toll rises to 31

QUETTA: The death toll from the hijacking of a train in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province has risen to 31. The Pakistani military has accused India and Afghanistan of supporting the insurgents. The separatist group Baloch Liberation Army, which claimed responsibility for the train attack, issued a statement about the attack, saying its fighters had taken 214 hostages and had since killed them all. On Tuesday, March 11, militants blew up the train tracks in a remote mountain pass in Balochistan province, taking passengers on the Jafar Express hostage. According to army spokesman Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, troops killed 33 insurgents, rescued 354 hostages and ended the hijacking. He added that there was no indication that the BLA had taken other people hostage from the scene. The military spokesman said that according to the final figures, 23 soldiers, three railway employees and five passengers were killed in the attack and rescue mission.
