AI Voice Cloning Scam: Businessman Defrauded of ₹50 Lakh, 4 Arrested

In a shocking case of AI-powered voice cloning, a businessman from Siliguri has been defrauded of ₹50 lakh. The fraudsters cloned the voice of a known individual, making the businessman believe he was speaking to a trusted person. The crime was detected after the accused used artificial intelligence to replicate the voice of the plywood company owner and contact the victim, pretending to be them.
The fraudster called the victim, claiming to be the owner of a famous plywood company in Kolkata. The victim, seeing the familiar number and hearing the recognizable voice, believed the call was legitimate. The scammer asked for ₹50 lakh, stating they were out of town but would return the money once they were back. Trusting the request, the victim transferred the amount, but the criminals cut all communication once they received the money. Police arrested four suspects, three from Mumbai and one from Kolkata, after tracing the phone numbers involved.
