Insta Maid: A 15-Minute House Help Service Sparks Controversy

In today’s fast-paced life, managing household chores has become challenging. To address this, Urban Company has launched the ‘Insta Maid’ service, allowing users to book a house help within just 15 minutes.
The service, currently in its pilot phase in Mumbai, offers first-time bookings at ₹49 per hour, but the standard rate is set at ₹245. Urban Company claims that ‘Insta Maid’ workers can earn ₹150-₹180 per hour, with additional benefits like free health and accident insurance.
However, the service has sparked major backlash on social media and among labor unions. Critics argue that it exploits workers under the guise of innovation. Labor organizations have condemned the model as a violation of workers’ rights and called for government intervention to regulate such gig work models.
