Hyderabad: BRS member Kalvakuntala Kavitha in the Telangana Legislative Council highlighted several important public issues and raised questions on the policies of the current government. Kavitha expressed displeasure over the government’s attitude in the preparation of the song “Jai Jai Telangana” and said that despite the presence of Telangana musicians, it is incomprehensible to have a musician from Andhra compose this song.

He said that there is a strong reaction against this decision on social media as well. Kavitha regretted that the “Telangana Tali”, which was highly respected during the movement, does not have any official recognition today. Telangana’s cultural festivals like Bathakaman and Bonal are our identity, but these traditions are being weakened by the government’s policies.

He demanded that the centenary celebrations of the great poet and freedom fighter Dasarathi be celebrated at the official level. His poetry is a reflection of Telangana’s culture and struggle. Kovita said that the government is taking credit for the production of 2.64 crore metric tonnes of paddy, while this success is actually the result of the Kaleshwaram project and farmer-friendly policies launched during the BRS government. He accused the current government of neglecting the agriculture sector and reminded that before the elections, it was promised to waive off loans of up to Rs 2 lakh of each farmer, but farmers are still burdened by debt. Kovita asked where the claim of giving a bonus of Rs 500 went? Every farmer is demanding that the government fulfill this promise. Kovita asked why the government has not been able to take the Nagarjuna Sagar project under the control of the state till now? He demanded that the government issue a white paper on investment in the state so that the people can be aware of the facts. Kavitha said that the government had earlier told the people that they do not need to pay the Land Regularization Scheme (LRS) amount but now they are being forced to pay.

On the other hand, demolition operations are being carried out by Hydra, which has become a cause of hardship and loss of life for the people. He demanded that more time be allotted for the budget session and said that there should be a detailed discussion on the public issues of Telangana. Kavitha said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was not involved in the Telangana movement. That is why he is not able to align himself with the public sentiments.

He expressed regret and said that in the united Andhra Pradesh, there was minority representation in the cabinet. But in the present government, minorities have not been given any place in the cabinet, which is very sad. Kavitha demanded that the government understand the sentiments of the people and take concrete steps for the development of the state.

Earlier, BRS members entered the Telangana Legislative Council holding placards, demanding a minimum support price of Rs 15,000 per quintal of turmeric.
