Election Commission Calls Meeting to Tackle ‘Ghost Voters’ Issue

The Election Commission is taking significant steps to address the issue of ‘ghost voters’ by linking Aadhaar cards with voter ID cards. This decision comes after the controversy surrounding duplicate voter entries, with the Election Commission having requested three months to resolve the issue. The Commission has stated that duplicate Epic numbers have been issued and that a meeting will be held on Tuesday to discuss the matter further.
The Election Commission had earlier issued a notice clarifying that while the Epic number may be the same, voter addresses, constituencies, and polling stations can vary based on the state and geographic location. The Commission has also made it clear that voters will only be able to vote in the constituency listed on their Epic card. The controversy began when TMC raised objections, supported by Congress and NCP. This issue has caught the attention of the central government, prompting the Election Commission to take action. The meeting, called by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, will include officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Aadhaar Commission, and other key government departments. Political parties are also being consulted on how best to integrate Aadhaar with voter registration.
