West Bengal Weather Update: Kalbaishakhi Alert Issued

The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for several districts of West Bengal as Kalbaishakhi storms are expected to hit the region between March 19 and 23. While mornings in South Bengal may feel relatively comfortable, temperatures are set to soar during the day, particularly in western districts like Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum, Paschim Medinipur, and Bardhaman. These areas are likely to experience heatwaves, with temperatures potentially exceeding 40°C in some places. Heatwave conditions occur when temperatures rise 5°C above normal levels or surpass the 40°C mark. Alongside the rising heat, there is also an increased likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall due to the formation of low-pressure zones.
From March 19 onward, scattered thunderstorms accompanied by intense Kalbaishakhi winds are expected across South Bengal, including Kolkata, Nadia, Hooghly, Howrah, and both North and South 24 Parganas. The storm’s wind speed could reach up to 70 km/h, causing significant disruption. Farmers have been advised to stay cautious as hailstorms may damage crops in certain areas. While northern parts of Bengal will likely remain stable with light showers in some regions, residents in southern and western districts should prepare for sudden weather changes. Authorities have urged everyone to take necessary precautions during this period of unpredictable weather patterns.
