High Court Rejects Woman’s Appeal in Divorce Case Over Obscene Chats with Male Friends

In a significant ruling, the Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed a woman’s appeal challenging the divorce granted by the Family Court. The Family Court had approved the divorce based on allegations of the wife’s obscene chats with male friends, which were deemed to be mental cruelty towards her husband.

The bench of Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Amarnath Singh stated that while both spouses have the freedom to interact with their friends after marriage, such communication should remain respectful. The court emphasized that no husband would tolerate his wife engaging in obscene chats about their private and sexual lives with male friends. This behavior was classified as mental cruelty, and the High Court upheld the Family Court’s decision.

The woman had claimed that her husband violated her privacy by hacking her phone and manipulating the chat records as evidence. She also accused him of harassment for dowry. However, the court rejected these claims, noting that the woman’s father had acknowledged her habit of talking to male friends.
