Additional coaches in Vaigai and Pallavan Express trains – a long-standing demand fulfilled!

With an aim to improve the comfort of the passengers and reduce congestion, especially during peak travel times, Southern Railway has added additional coaches to the Vaigai and Pallavan Express trains!
Passengers travelling on these trains, which are running at full capacity, have been demanding the addition of additional coaches for a long time, and now additional coaches have been added to both the trains. This has been greatly welcomed by the passengers!
Decision to provide an improved journey
As the fourth largest railway in the world, operating over 12,000 trains daily and serving more than one crore passengers, Indian Railways has been taking several initiatives from time to time to improve the passenger experience. As part of this, the railways are being divided into zones and served the people. Special trains, new services and additional coaches are being added as per the convenience of the passengers travelling in the respective zones.
Additional coach connection
The trains that carry the most passengers from Chennai include the Vaigai Express running between Madurai – Chennai Egmore and the Chennai Egmore – Karaikudi Pallavan Express. Southern Railway has announced that an additional general coach will be connected to the daytime express trains running at full capacity.
Two trains running at full capacity
The Vaigai Express, which starts from Chennai Egmore, reaches Madurai Junction via Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Virudhachalam, Ariyalur, Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli and Dindigul. The Vaigai Express covers a distance of about 493 km in about 7 hours 25 minutes, making it one of the fastest and most preferred trains between Chennai and Madurai.
Similarly, the Pallavan Express, which starts from Chennai Egmore, reaches Karaikudi Junction via Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Virudhachalam, Ariyalur, Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai. The Pallavan Express covers a distance of about 426 km in about 7 hours and 10 minutes.
Reduction of one reserved compartment
As an additional compartment is to be added, one reserved seating compartment is being reduced in these express trains. Following this, these trains will be operated with 12 reserved second class seating compartments, 4 second class general seating compartments, 3 air-conditioned seating compartments, one differently-abled compartment and one train manager compartment with a goods compartment.
Vaigai Express to be added from May 11
The Vaigai Express (train number 12636) running between Madurai and Chennai Egmore and the Pallavan Express (train number 12605) running between Chennai Egmore and Karaikudi will have an additional unreserved second class general seating compartment from May 11.
Pallavan Express to be added from May 12
Similarly, the Pallavan Express (train number 12606) running between Karaikudi and Chennai Egmore and the Vaigai Express (train number 12635) running between Chennai Egmore and Madurai will have an additional unreserved second class general seating compartment from May 12.
