In a shocking incident in Nadia’s Gayeshpur area, an 80-year-old woman, Pranpriya Barui, was attacked by her daughter-in-law with a sharp weapon while she was going for a bath on Saturday afternoon. The vicious attack left the elderly woman severely injured, and she collapsed in the yard. Neighbors rushed to her aid upon hearing her cries, and immediately took her to Kalyani JNM Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

The police were alerted and quickly arrived at the scene. The daughter-in-law, Upasana, was arrested on charges of attempted murder. Although the reason behind the attack remains unclear, early investigations suggest ongoing marital discord might have played a role. Police are interrogating both neighbors and the suspect to understand the dynamics of the relationship between the victim and the accused. Interestingly, just days earlier, another incident surfaced in the region where a daughter-in-law was accused of killing her mother-in-law in Midamgram.
