Extra Fee for Tourists Entering Sikkim: How Much?

Extra Fee for Tourists Entering Sikkim: How Much?

Tourists visiting the picturesque state of Sikkim will now have to pay an additional fee of ₹50 upon entering. This new regulation, announced by the state government, has been in effect since March and falls under the Sikkim Tourism Business Registration Policy. According to a government official, the fee will be collected from visitors when they check into hotels across the state. Children below the age of five are exempt from this charge. Hotel authorities are responsible for depositing the collected amount with the state’s tourism department.

The revenue generated from this fee will be utilized to enhance tourism infrastructure and services in Sikkim. The funds are expected to improve road networks, cleanliness, and other facilities to ensure tourists enjoy a seamless experience during their stay. For a payment of ₹50, tourists can stay in Sikkim for up to 30 days. If their stay extends beyond that period or if they re-enter the state after leaving, the fee will need to be paid again. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading the region’s appeal as a prime tourist destination while addressing infrastructural challenges.
