Clash during Holi procession in UP, stone-pelting followed by lathi charge, several injured

A peaceful celebration of Holi and Friday prayers across Uttar Pradesh turned into chaos in Shahjahanpur due to the actions of some troublemakers. During the procession in three different areas, miscreants disrupted the event, leading to stone pelting when the police intervened. In retaliation, the police launched a lathi charge to disperse the rioters, chasing and beating them.
The incident occurred near Khirnibagh area in the Sadar Bazaar police station area. A similar situation unfolded at the Big Lat Sahib procession at Ghantaghar, where the RAF had to intervene with lathi charge to control the situation. This year, extra caution was taken due to the overlap of Friday prayers with Holi. The route had been pre-arranged with coverings over mosques, and the time for Friday prayers was adjusted to avoid any conflict. Despite the measures, violent clashes erupted as the procession passed, leading to injuries on both sides. The police struggled to regain control, and the situation remained tense.
#holi #Holi#Holi2025 pic.twitter.com/SIX1HKDdmE
