Was It Betrayal? Moushumi Chatterjee Reveals Why She Was Replaced by Jaya Bachchan

Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has recently opened up about a long-buried controversy involving Jaya Bachchan. She claims she was unfairly removed from the 1972 film Koshish, a role that eventually went to Jaya. According to Moushumi, she had already started shooting for the film when she noticed Jaya’s secretary frequently visiting the production office.

The turning point came when director Gulzar asked her to extend her working hours. As a young mother at the time, Moushumi declined, stating she could only work one shift. This allegedly did not sit well with Gulzar, who then made it clear that many actresses were eager for the role. Moushumi claims she walked away, only to later find out that Jaya Bachchan had replaced her. Despite missing out on the film, Moushumi built a successful career, acting alongside legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna.
