No Problem for Prayers During Holi, Says Sambhal’s SP Anuj Chowdhury

In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, Holi festivities were celebrated peacefully, despite the usual concerns around religious observances during this time. On the second Jumma prayer of Ramadan, Sambhal’s SP, Anuj Chowdhury, assured that Muslims could continue their prayers without any disruptions. Speaking to the media, Chowdhury confidently stated, “Go and offer your prayers, there will be no problem.” His remarks came after a large Holi procession was carried out peacefully from the back of the mosque, a significant event marking a harmonious coexistence of traditions. Over 3,000 people participated in the procession, alongside a large police presence ensuring security, led by Chowdhury himself. CCTV cameras and drones monitored the area for additional safety.
Chowdhury further emphasized that the police administration had maintained constant communication with both communities. Despite criticism over his comments, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, defended Anuj Chowdhury, calling him a fearless individual who made no mistake in his statement. The peaceful resolution of events in Sambhal sent a message of unity and respect during a time that could have otherwise led to tensions.
