New Brahmos missile is becoming more dangerous, joining Sukhoi-Tejas

A new feather in the crown of Indian defense. The next generation Brahmos missile is being developed. It will travel 3.5 times faster than sound. It will hit targets 290 km away. Name — Brahmos NG.

The new generation Brahmos are becoming lighter and faster. They are also becoming smaller in size. As a result, they can be more easily attached to fighter aircraft.

Brahmos NG is going to take a new flight in 2026. Brahmos NG is being prepared to attack the enemy along with India’s own Light Combat Aircraft Tejas (Light Combat Aircraft LCA Tejas) and India’s Sukhoi-30MKI built with Russian technology. At 6 meters long and weighing just 1.6 tons, the Brahmos NG is almost half the weight of the previous Brahmos. Earlier, this missile weighed about 3 tons and was 9 meters long.

The next-generation Brahmos NG will fly for the first time in a test flight in 2026. That is, for the first time, its attack capabilities will be tested alongside Tejas or Sukhoi. These two fighter jets are also built in the same way. Jayateerth Joshi, Director General of BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia, said that while the lethality remains the same, the new generation Brahmos is becoming more efficient and lighter. He said, “While maintaining the lethality of Brahmos, we are making the missile more suitable and efficient. State-of-the-art technology is being used for this.” He said that the Brahmos NG will be ready for its first flight test within a year. However, uninterrupted production will start by 2027.

The Brahmos supersonic missile, which is light and capable of hitting targets accurately, is now the pride of India. Exports abroad are also on the way. Several countries in Africa and West Asia have already started showing interest. For the first time, India is on the path of selling a missile to countries like the Philippines and Indonesia. The Indonesian President recently came to Delhi. He was explained the capabilities of Brahmos. He was so encouraged by seeing it that a contract worth 450 million US dollars is also on the way to being signed between the two countries. The Philippines has already signed a contract worth 375 million US dollars to buy Brahmos.

Why is Brahmos the apple of the eye of defense experts? What is its specialty?

Brahmos is actually a two-stage missile. It has a propellant engine, due to which this supersonic missile travels almost three times faster than sound. It is not detected by enemy radar and is capable of hitting targets accurately from a distance. That is why it is a match for the battlefield. It is also easy to operate. Once you set a target and fire it, it will work. Then just ‘fire and forget’. That is, once you launch it, forget everything else. This missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, will destroy the enemy by hitting the target set by itself. Although there are other such state-of-the-art subsonic cruise missiles in India’s arsenal, Brahmos is different from the rest for four main reasons

  1. Three times faster than the rest
  2. About 2.5-3 times the range of other missiles
  3. 9 times more kinetic energy
  4. Seeker range is about three to four times

This missile is a special choice of the Indian army as Brahmos missile can be launched from land, from a warship on the sea and even from a submarine or submarine using a transport launch canister. Along with this, China and Pakistan are also very afraid of this missile because of its ‘pin point accuracy’ or ability to carry out precise attacks.
