In several cold storages in Chandrakona, if potatoes are taken in the morning, they are being closed in the afternoon. The doors of the cold storage are being closed, as a result, they have to go to another cold storage. The same situation is seen there too. Once again, potatoes have to be unloaded by searching for another cold storage, which increases the cost.
The cold storage authorities claim that due to the lack of sufficient workers, it is taking time to load the potatoes into the cold storage chamber. That is why they have to keep the gate closed. In addition, the potatoes that are coming to be stored in the cold storage are much more than 50 kg, so the workers are not able to carry them. The authorities claim that many are quitting work.
Sheikh Ziabur Rahman, vice-president of West Bengal Coldstore Association, Paschim Medinipur district, said that the month of Ramadan is going on. As a result, most of the workers are not going to work. He claimed that this problem will be resolved in a few days.
This situation has been seen in several places in East Burdwan. There too, due to the closure of the cold storage, lines of trucks loaded with potatoes are forming on the roads. Farmers are waiting day and night to store the potatoes in the cold storage.
