Temporary ceasefire could be shaped into peace deal: Zelensky

Jeddah: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed a meeting between US and Ukrainian officials in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, saying it could shape the proposed ceasefire into a broader peace deal.
The US and Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire during the talks in Jeddah, after which the US announced it was restoring military aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing was being resumed.
During a briefing in Kyiv, Zelensky expressed his serious support for the ceasefire, calling it a key opportunity to end the war. He also called the restoration of military aid by the US a positive development.
“We are ready for the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the US,” Zelensky clarified.
He added that the talks in Jeddah have eased tensions between the US and Ukraine, which had escalated after a bitter White House meeting with President Donald Trump last month.
US position and waiting for Russia’s response
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said after the talks that the offer would now be put to Russia, and the decision was now in Russia’s hands. On the other hand, the Kremlin has said that it is waiting for the details of the US-proposed 30-day ceasefire and will give its response after considering it.
