35 Communities Removed from OBC List – Political Storm Erupts

After the Kolkata High Court canceled several lakh fake OBC certificates, the central government made a bold move by removing 35 communities from the OBC list. This means individuals from these communities will no longer be eligible for reservation benefits.
The decision has sparked intense political debate in West Bengal. The opposition claims that the central government is deliberately blocking the social and economic progress of minority and backward communities. Experts suggest that this move could have long-term implications, as most of the excluded communities belong to the Muslim community.
Based on recommendations from the National Commission for Backward Classes, 35 communities, including Churihar, Kalwar, Nikari, Mahaladar, Dhukre, Basni, Abdal, Kan, Tutiya, Gayen, Beldar, Khotta, and Muslim Sardar, have been excluded. The West Bengal government is preparing a legal challenge against this decision, and affected communities are also likely to seek legal recourse.
