5 Key Habits for a Healthy Liver – Expert’s Advice

The liver is one of the most vital organs in our body, yet due to modern lifestyle and poor dietary habits, a significant portion of the population is suffering from liver-related diseases. Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin, Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in New Delhi, warns that three out of four adults have fatty liver disease. The primary culprits behind this are unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption, misuse of medication, and chronic stress.
To maintain a healthy liver, Dr. Sarin highlights four essential “lifelines” – a nutritious diet, regular physical activity, mental peace and proper sleep, and responsible medication use. He advises consuming fresh vegetables and fruits, avoiding processed foods, staying physically active, and managing stress effectively. Additionally, he stresses the importance of annual liver function tests to detect potential issues early and prevent severe conditions like cirrhosis and liver cancer.
