Why Was No One from Pakistan on the Awards Stage? PCB Demands Explanation from ICC

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was hosted by Pakistan, but no representative from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was seen on stage during the awards ceremony following the final match. This has sparked a heated controversy, with the PCB now demanding an explanation from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Although PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi could not attend the final due to prior commitments as a provincial minister, he had sent CEO and tournament director Sumaira Ahmed as his representative to Dubai. Despite being present in the stadium, Sumaira was not invited on stage during the trophy presentation.

The PCB has expressed strong dissatisfaction over this oversight. Traditionally, the host nation’s representative is expected to be part of such ceremonies. However, this time, the stage was dominated by Indian cricket officials, including BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah, along with ICC Chairman Jay Shah. The absence of any Pakistani representative has drawn sharp criticism. Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar voiced his disappointment, questioning how Pakistan, as the host country, could be excluded from the ceremony.

An ICC spokesperson cited protocol, stating only board heads are allowed on stage, but admitted there might have been miscommunication. Meanwhile, the PCB plans to formally write to the ICC seeking clarity, as tensions remain high within Pakistan’s cricket community.
