Bangladesh Army Chief’s Attempted Coup Thwarted
March 11, 2025

In Bangladesh, an attempted coup by Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has been foiled. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Army, led by Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman, convened a meeting at the army headquarters to discuss replacing the Army Chief. Several officers supported Rahman’s move, but they failed to gather enough backing for the coup attempt.
Following the failed coup attempt, Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman has been placed under surveillance by the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), the military intelligence agency of Bangladesh. This incident comes in the wake of previous power struggles within the country’s military and government, further adding to political instability.
