A bloody incident took place in Mau, Madhya Pradesh over the celebration of the Champions Trophy win. There were allegations of stone pelting. The stone pelting was reported from the mosque premises. The situation turned fiery, several shops and vehicles were set on fire by the agitated crowd. The police shaved the heads of nine youths in this incident.

The police have arrested 12 people from the minority community in the incident.

There has been a lot of uproar in Madhya Pradesh over the incident of shaving the heads of nine people. The BJP MLA of Diwas has raised questions about the punishment given to only nine people in the crowd. He went to the SP office and spoke to Superintendent of Police Punit Gehlot. MLA Gayatriraj Pawar claimed that the youths have no criminal record. What does it mean to suddenly arrest them and humiliate them in this way? However, it is not known what further action has been taken by the police.

India won the Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand on Sunday night. The entire country was intoxicated with the joy of winning the Champions Trophy after 12 years. The residents of Maui also rejoiced. The public joined the Tricolor Victory procession. Police claim that some people were holding saffron flags at that time.

Trouble started as soon as the procession reached the Jama Masjid area. Suddenly, stones were pelted at the procession from the area adjacent to the mosque. The two sides got into a scuffle. Additional Superintendent of Police Rupesh Dwivedi said that the trouble started as soon as the slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Matar Jai’ were raised. At that time, people were returning from the mosque after offering night prayers.

However, Mufti Jabir, in-charge of Jama Masjid in Maui, alleged that a group of people were trying to burn firecrackers inside the mosque to celebrate the joy of India winning. Then they also raised objectionable comments and slogans. Someone from that crowd first threw bricks. That is what was seen in the video. The police have that footage. The investigation is underway.

However, the Additional Superintendent of Police said that no evidence has been found yet to support the allegation of firecrackers being thrown inside the mosque. He said, “We are examining the CCTV footage, but so far we have not found any information to prove this claim.”

He also said that a total of four FIRs have been filed in the clash. The first of these was filed by four injured people. The second was filed by a Sindhi businessman whose shop was set on fire. The third FIR was filed by two people whose motorcycles were set on fire. And the fourth FIR was filed on Monday by members of the Muslim community.

Meanwhile, the clash has taken on a political hue. BJP MLA Usha Thakur told reporters on Monday, “The boys were celebrating India’s victory, people with anti-national mentality started pelting stones. The incident of stone-pelting took place in a minority-dominated area. There is sufficient video evidence and the accused will be punished as per the law. Such anti-national mentality needs to be ended.”
