Sukanta Majumdar, leader of the BJP, has emphasized that the introduction of a biometric voting system in the upcoming 2026 elections would effectively eliminate the problem of fake voters. He stated that biometric technology would be the only way to tackle voter fraud in the elections. On the same day, the BJP submitted a list of 17 lakh fake voters to the Election Commission.

Majumdar later called for an extension review and suggested that door-to-door verification should be conducted to ensure the authenticity of voters. He also pointed out that the Election Commission was not to blame for the situation, claiming that the state government held responsibility. According to Majumdar, the CEO, DM, SDO, and BDO in the state are all under the influence of the ruling TMC, as officers are promoted only if they comply with the Chief Minister’s directives.
