“Why 10 crores deprived for 25 lakhs?” – Kalyan raises question in Parliament on fake job card issue

The fake voter card issue has spread tension across the country. The Congress has stood by the Trinamool Congress in Parliament on this issue. On Tuesday (March 11, 2025), the two main opponents of West Bengal – Trinamool Congress and BJP – are going to approach the Election Commission on this issue. A delegation of 10 MPs, including Derek O’Brien and Kalyan Banerjee, from Trinamool will meet the Election Commission.
As a countermeasure, the BJP is also going to the Commission. In this atmosphere, Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee has raised the issue of 25 lakh fake job cards in the 100-day work project in Parliament.
Conflict over fake voter cards
The Trinamool Congress has been alleging for a long time that the BJP is forging the voter list with the help of the Election Commission. Party leaders have claimed that fake names have been added to the voter list of Bengal from different states. Due to this allegation, a delegation of 10 Trinamool MPs will present their statement before the full bench of the Commission on Tuesday. On the other hand, BJP has counter-alleged that Trinamool is the one adding the names of infiltrators to the voter list. Both parties are approaching the Commission with their demands.
Fake job card controversy in 100 days of work
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has been raising its voice against the Center for many days over the pending money of the central project. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi several times, especially alleging that money was not released for the 100 days of work project. Mamata and Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee have been protesting from Kolkata to Delhi. Trinamool claims that the Center has been withholding money for this project since 2022.
BJP’s counter-allegation is that the Trinamool government has created 25 lakh fake job cards for 100 days of work. According to them, the Trinamool “swindlers” have looted the money allocated for the poor and turned government projects into “scams”. Responding to this allegation, Kalyan Banerjee said in the Lok Sabha, “The identities of the 25 lakh fake job cards that are being talked about must be revealed. In this way, the benefits of 10 crore people of West Bengal cannot be stopped on the pretext of fake cards.” He asked the Centre what is the truth of this allegation?
Long-standing tension
Mamata has been alleging that the money for 100 days of work has been stuck for almost three years. Although the state government has repeatedly requested the Centre to release the money, it has not been approved yet. Trinamool alleges that this is the result of political vendetta. On the other hand, the BJP claims that the money has been stuck due to corruption in the state.
Heated debate in Parliament
The tension between Trinamool and BJP has reached its peak in Parliament over these two issues – fake voter cards and fake job cards. With the support of Congress, Trinamool has become more vocal on this issue. Kalyan Banerjee’s speech has raised the question of the rights of the people of West Bengal. Meanwhile, the entire country is watching what decision is taken on this issue after the meeting of the two parties with the Election Commission.
