According to this tradition, if a man applies color to an unmarried girl on the day of Holi, he is compelled to marry her. If the girl refuses to marry, all the man’s property must be transferred to the girl’s name. This rule is still prevalent in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand and in the Turaturi village of Alipurduar, West Bengal.
