MP Shashi Tharoor Demands Salary Hike for ASHA Workers

Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has raised the issue of increasing salaries for ASHA workers in Parliament. He highlighted that ASHA workers in Kerala receive a meager monthly payment of ₹7,000, which is often delayed and insufficient. Tharoor emphasized that these workers have been protesting for a month, and their demands deserve immediate attention.

Congress leader KC Venugopal supported Tharoor’s stance, advocating for a significant salary hike, suggesting that ASHA workers should be paid up to ₹24,000 per month. The demand underscores the critical role these frontline health workers play in rural healthcare and the need for better remuneration to acknowledge their contributions. The issue has sparked a broader debate on fair wages for healthcare workers across the country.
