New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described his visit to Mauritius as important for mutual growth and prosperity as well as security and development in the Indian Ocean region. In his statement before leaving for Mauritius, Mr Modi said, “At the invitation of my friend Prime Minister Dr. Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam, I am on a two-day official visit to Mauritius to participate in the celebrations of the 57th National Day of Mauritius.”

He said, “Mauritius is a close maritime neighbour, a key partner in the Indian Ocean and a gateway to the African continent. We are connected by history, geography and culture. Deep mutual trust, shared belief in the values ​​of democracy and celebration of our diversity are our strengths. Close and historic ties between people are a source of shared pride.” We have made significant progress in the last ten years with people-centric initiatives,” he said. “As part of our Sagar Vision, I look forward to the opportunity to engage with the leadership of Mauritius to strengthen our enduring friendship and enhance our partnership in all its aspects for the development and prosperity of our people as well as for security and progress in the Indian Ocean region.” The Prime Minister said, “I am confident that this visit will build on the foundations of the past and add a new and bright chapter to India-Mauritius relations.
