Ontario threatens to cut off electricity supply

Trade tensions have escalated after US President Donald Trump decided to impose heavy tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. In response, the Canadian province of Ontario announced a 25% duty on electricity exported to the US.

In fact, Ontario supplies electricity to 1.5 million US customers in New York, Minnesota and Michigan. Ontario Premier Doug Ford made it clear that if the US increases tariffs, it could completely cut off electricity supplies to the US.

Doug Ford said that if the US increases its tariffs, he will not hesitate to cut off electricity completely. Ford also said that he feels bad for American citizens because they did not start this trade war, but only one person, President Trump, is responsible for it.

Donald Trump announced tariffs of 25 per cent on Canada and Mexico and 10 per cent on China, raising fears of inflation and economic recession. Mexico, Canada and China immediately retaliated. Ford demanded that Trump withdraw the tariffs, warning that Ontario would not back down until the US reversed its decision. He said he would do anything to cause maximum pain to Americans because Trump changes his position every day and is attacking Canada.

It should be noted that the growing trade tensions between the US and Canada have affected the trade and energy relations of the two countries. Ontario’s 25 per cent electricity tariff is seen as a harsh response to Trump’s tariffs. If the dispute escalates, it could affect US-Canadian economic relations.
