Kolkata Derby Postponed! New Date Announced for East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan Clash Due to Polls

The high-stakes West Bengal Assembly Election results, scheduled for May 4, have forced a major reshuffle in the Indian Super League (ISL) calendar. Originally slated for May 3, the iconic Kolkata Derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan has been postponed due to the unavailability of adequate security ahead of the counting day. The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed on Thursday that the mega clash will now take place on May 17 at 7:30 PM.
The election impact has led to the rescheduling of seven matches in total. For East Bengal, four fixtures have been altered, including their match against Odisha FC, which has been moved from Kolkata to Fatorda, Goa, due to polling constraints. Mohun Bagan’s match against Inter Kashi, previously set for April 26, will now be played on May 12. Additionally, East Bengal’s face-off with Mumbai City FC has been preponed from May 8 to May 5. This massive overhaul ensures that the sporting spirit remains intact without compromising the state’s security during the crucial electoral period.
