Karnataka Row: Congress MLA’s Aide Lands in Legal Soup Over Viral Reel with Guns; Police Launch Investigation

A viral social media reel has sparked a major controversy in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi, featuring Matin Patel, a close associate of a local Congress MLA. In the video, Patel is seen flaunting a pistol and a shotgun while posing to the hit song “Fala” from the movie Dhurandhara. The display of weapons in a “filmy style” has drawn severe criticism from the public, raising concerns over the glorification of gun culture.

Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD confirmed that the police are aware of the video and an investigation has been initiated. Authorities are verifying the jurisdiction where the video was filmed and whether the firearms shown are licensed. Under the Arms Act, 1959, and Arms Rules, 2016, public display of weapons is a punishable offense. As Patel is known for his political connections, the incident has taken a political turn, though the Congress party is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
