In a major breakthrough, the prime accused in the Kaliachak incident, Mofakkerul Islam, was arrested at Bagdogra Airport while attempting to flee. The arrest has immediately triggered a political firestorm in West Bengal, with BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar making explosive allegations against the ruling party.

Majumdar claimed that Mofakkerul Islam is a booth-level worker of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He further suggested that the accused had been evading arrest due to political patronage. While the TMC has dismissed these claims as baseless, the arrest of the main kingpin and the subsequent political war of words have intensified the election atmosphere in the region.
