Irfan Pathan Slams Ajinkya Rahane’s Tactics! Why Was Out-of-Form Varun Given the Powerplay?

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has raised serious concerns over KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane’s tactical decisions following their 65-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pathan criticized the move to bring Varun Chakaravarthy into the attack during the Powerplay, especially given the spinner’s ongoing struggle with form since the T20 World Cup 2026.
Varun proved to be highly expensive, conceding 31 runs in just 2 overs. Pathan argued that using an out-of-form bowler in such a high-pressure situation shatters their confidence further. “Varun is a match-winner, but giving him the hardest job when he’s struggling only adds unnecessary pressure,” Pathan remarked. While he praised Rahane’s leadership in the second half of the game, the lack of synergy between the captain and the star bowler was evident. Chasing a massive 227, KKR folded for 161, marking their second consecutive loss of the season.
