Iran-USA War Impact, Modi Govt Scraps Excise Duty on Key Goods to Curb Price Hike

Amid the escalating conflict between Iran and the USA, the Indian government has moved swiftly to shield the domestic economy from a looming supply chain crisis. To ensure the availability of essential raw materials and control inflation, the Union Finance Ministry has announced the withdrawal of excise duty on several critical petrochemical products.
Who Will Benefit? The exemption, valid until June 30, 2026, aims to support industries such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, packaging, and automotive parts. By removing duties on substances like Methanol, Toluene, Phenol, Acetic Acid, and Polyethylene, the government seeks to stabilize production costs despite the volatility in West Asia. This strategic intervention is expected to prevent a shortage of daily-use commodities and maintain the momentum of the manufacturing sector.
