IPL Blackout in Bangladesh? JioStar Terminates Broadcast Deal with TSports Over Unpaid Dues

Cricket enthusiasts in Bangladesh are facing a major disappointment as the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 hangs in the balance. JioStar, the Indian broadcasting giant, has officially terminated its contract with Bangladesh’s ‘TSports’ for both IPL and the Women’s Premier League (WPL). In a letter dated February 17, JioStar cited “consistent failure to meet payment timelines and irregularities in clearing dues” as the primary reason for this immediate termination.

While there have been recent diplomatic and cricketing tensions between the two nations, the collapse of this multi-year deal (initially spanning 2023-2027) appears to be strictly commercial rather than political. The termination means that the most popular cricket league in the world might not be available on television screens in Bangladesh this coming season. Unless a new partner steps in or financial disputes are resolved, millions of fans will miss out on the action.
